Express your personal dance

There’s a fundamental joy and sense of aliveness when we openly share our feelings and emotions, our longings, our deeply felt impulses that move us.

Explore

Open up to all possibilities… what do we long for, what do we need, and how can we be fully authentic, awake and alive in our lives?

Embody your truth and experience your true self

Our mind and body are inseparable. There’s a deep wisdom when we learn to listen to the intelligence of our bodies, and when we allow ourselves to be in the here and now.

Enjoy!

It’s fun and great for your physical and mental health to move! The effect of focussing on the moment, being creative and letting go of our habitual thoughts results in a powerful sense of vitality and happiness!

“…free the body to experience the power of being…”

Awake Body Belly Dance

This class is for both beginners as well as more experienced dancers – but no dance experience required. You will be learning and practicing basic Belly Dance movements but with an emphasis on expressive and improvisational aspects as well as exploring how the dance can be a powerful conduit to integrating mind and body and discovering the power of feminine principles. Not only is it fun, healthy and a great way to build community, it’s also a gateway to connect with your body in a positive, conscious and respectful way.

Awake Body Creative Dance

An Awake Body creative dance class offers you a space where you can let go, express yourself, be creative, playful and feel alive. It’s a gift when you take a break from the daily drudge and mental chatter to simply be present here and now in your body, with your sensations, your emotions, your dreams, and letting them move you. Through the dance you will explore your world through the body’s language – listening to it and taking chances by being creative and genuine in a supportive and safe environment. Each time you practice listening to your body and moving authentically, you are honouring and trusting its intelligence. Above all, dancing is great for your physical and mental health, and lots of fun!

Authentic Movement

Authentic Movement is a profound but simple form in which individuals move with eyes closed in the presence of a witness. It involves yielding to the inner wisdom of the body as it manifests through impulses, sensations, gestures, images and memories whilst in the presence of a non-judgemental and compassionate witness. This provides a place where the inner truth may be shared. Like meditation and mindfulness practice, authentic movement increases self-awareness, compassion for self and others, as well as a basic acceptance and confidence in our authentic self.

Contemplative Movement

This practice combines movement and meditation. You will learn and practice basic meditation and mindfulness as well as letting your body dictate movement. The focus is to allow yourself to be awake, conscious of the impulses, sensations and feelings that move you, and even thoughts that come and go, with full, non-judgemental and compassionate attention. Giving ourselves the space to practice contemplative movement opens us to becoming more awake in our daily lives, and more familiar with ourselves, our patterns, our tendencies. More importantly, we begin to experience being more courageous in accepting our truth, our authentic selves and those around us.

Embodying the Goddess Within

“When we consciously embody the Goddess, we become the Goddess”
(Leesa, the Gypsy Priestess)

Given a chance to be fully ourselves, powerful and without imposed or perceived limitations, how and who would we be? Using movement as a base for inquiry and exploration, this class gives women and individuals who identify as women a chance to experience, in a supportive and compassionate environment, what it’s like to embody a sacred and powerful Self. Exploring themes and connecting with our body through sensations, impulses, emotions, and dreams, we practice being awake to our process and at the same time open to deeper parts of ourselves – where our truth and our creative and intuitive selves reside – our true inner beauty. The more we learn to value ourselves, the more apt we are to find ways to help change our relationships, our families, our society.

Circles

Awake Body circles combine movement and support group experience.

Circles

One of the main objectives of group support circles is to help all members feel fully accepted and open in order to explore any issues that may arise. Focusing on the body is the foundation not only for connecting with one’s true feelings, emotions and longings, it’s also a process that can serve in the exploration of helpful tools and resources. Each session involves verbal communication, as well, giving individuals an opportunity to ask for support and practice positive communication skills.
